The Presbytery of Gordon consists of 30 parishes (25 charges) covering a large geographical area of the North East of Scotland.
Much of the area is rural with a rich agricultural heritage, however, being located close to the city of Aberdeen, many towns and villages have expanded to accommodate commuters including those involved in the oil and gas industries.
The life and witness of our congregations reflects the diversity of backgrounds and aspirations of the residents of the various parishes. Recently, much work has been done to encourage congregations to work together in Parish Groupings.
Elders are encouraged to serve for an initial period of three years to enable continuity and understanding of the business of Presbytery. Elders and retired ministers can claim travel expenses for their attendance at any Presbytery or committee meetings, Travel claim forms are issued at the September meeting and may be submitted at any time. Ministers claim their travel costs from their congregations. Conveners of Committees can claim travel costs for extra travelling in the course of their duties as conveners.
Presbytery members will receive a booklet "Remits to Presbyteries" that contains items sent down from the General Assembly. Although not used at every meeting of Presbytery it is advisable that members bring this on each occasion as items contained within it may be discussed throughout the year. The Presbytery Clerk is happy to answer any questions on Presbytery Procedures and members of Presbytery are encouraged to speak to him regarding any queries.
Area Groupings
Each congregation within Presbytery is a member of an Area Grouping of which there are seven in total. These are set out in the Congregations page together with links to web sites, contacts and detailed data sheets.
