Dear friends,
Holy Week is the high point of the Christian calendar when we are usually all together singing songs such as, “Hosanna”, “Amazing love, how can it be?”, and “He is risen!” But this year is different. This year we are all staying-in to support our NHS and to save lives (thank you!). But we can still worship together! We can continue to light a candle of hope on Sunday nights, continue to worship online on Sunday mornings, and we can join together all across Gordon as we are led in worship through our “Holy Week Together” ministry.
What is Holy Week Together? Holy Week Together provides written and video meditations from ministers all across Gordon. Each day a written meditation and video reflection will be posted on the Presbytery of Gordon webpage and linked through the Facebook pages. Written meditations can be printed out or enlarged for the visually impaired.
What our world is going through weighs heavy on my heart. It breaks my heart to see the daily death toll and I continue to pray each day, Lord, have mercy and heal our world. The Psalms of lament have become by daily readings and prayers. I have found that my laments are right alongside my praises as I see individuals, churches, and communities working together in new ways! It’s comforting to see the church rise to this occasion.
Praise God for the churches and neighbourhoods coming together to take care of the vulnerable. Praise God for the claps for carers roaring out each Thursday night at 8pm. Praise God for candles of hope which are illuminating from our window seals and social media feeds each Sunday night at 7pm. And praise God that during this time, Holy Week can be extra special as we are drawn together through worship in a whole new way in Gordon Presbytery.
So please join us each day as we are led in worship through the Holy Week Together project. We will post them every day on Facebook but you can always go the Presbytery of Gordon page to check them out later.
May God draw us to each other and to Him in a whole new way this Holy Week.
Lord Jesus, just as those in Jerusalem spread out their cloaks before you, we lay down our lives to you this week and hail you as our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Amen.
Together in Christ’s love,

This Maundy Thursday Rhona will be reflecting on Jesus’ last Passover meal and how the Jewish experience of exile might help us celebrate and appreciate God's presence in this pandemic diaspora. Feel free to have your own bread, cup of juice or wine, and/or candle handy.

Please join Heather and Joshua Mikelson at 19:00 on Good Friday as they lead us through a contemplative service, which will focus on the seven times that Jesus spoke from the cross. As we continue to struggle with the suffering caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, may the sufferings of our Lord on Good Friday assure us that God knows the fullness of our pain and is journeying with us through every step of our lives.
